8 Ways we provoke our children

John MacArthur has posted a nice article on Pulpit Magazine about the following scripture, discussing how we should NOT provoke our children to anger.  I've created a shortened list (HT: Challies)

Ephesians 6:4
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

  1. Over-protection
  2. Favoritism
  3. Pushing for unreasonable achievement
  4. Discouragement / lack of encouragement
  5. Failing to sacrifice for children, making them feel unwanted or in the way
  6. Expecting maturity beyond their age
  7. Using love as a tool of reward and/or punishment
  8. Physical and verbal abuse
