Top 5 Books on Atheism

...from Christianity Today?

The list steers away from the acidic tone of the neo-atheists like Dawkins and Hitchens to works more respectful of all sides by atheists and others.

I have not read any of these works, but they each seem interesting as a way to understand both current and historical atheism, especially how it relates to Christianity.

I wonder what atheists would consider their hallmark works - I mean, assuming that we could eliminate most of the currently popular works, unless they are cogent (perhaps Sam Harris' works are good and representative?).

Although I don't think of myself as a doctrinaire atheist, I do like the works of Nietzsche, Sartre, Camus, Hitchens, Vidal, Dostoevsky, and Harris. My all-time favorite author is Shakespeare.

Bertrand Russell, Baron d'Holbach, David Hume, Ayn Rand, Jean-Paul Sartre, Peter Singer, Epicurus...
