Why they think the iPhone is better than Jesus

Perry Noble has the answers. It's almost like we work hard at making church boring.

I disagree. I think church is only boring to people because they are more interested in earthly things. It takes effort to interest yourself in God. It is no effort to interest yourself in something when everyone around you is saying how cool it is. Plus the iPhone does stuff for you. Jesus requires you do stuff for him... ;)

Lawanda, that may be part of it, but the message of the Gospel is the most exciting thing to ever happen on this Earth, yet rarely do I see or sense that in most church services.

Besides, I don't know about you, but Jesus has done more for me than an iPhone ever could. ;)

Also, I'm still longing for an iPod, so I'm not ready for the phone yet.

Yes Jesus has done loads for me, but not until I did a lot for him first! It is better to give than to receive, after all :)

People just don't get excited about their souls like they do about their gadgets :-p

Hi Aaron! I'm glad you're back. You don't post enough. ;-0

Anyway, I think the iPhone is more exciting than Jesus because it's real. You can hold it in your hand and do fantastic stuff with it. Where's Jesus, anyway? It's been two thousand years of nonsense in His name, and still a no-show. And all we get is the same ol' scolding from people like Lawanda and seeker: there's no good news here at all, just more threats and demands and cultish behavior. Who needs it? Give me an iPhone anyday.

Glad to be back and posting. The only chance I get to post is when I am at work (no internet at home) and so my posting depends on my work schedule. I wanted to put some stuff up even if it wasn't indepth because of my lack of posting recently.

How exciting will the iPhone be when it is an old cultural relic? How exciting are all the old huge cell phones that were the rage? Not very much. The same will be true with the iPhone - five years from now it or at least it's current incarnation will be old, boring news.

What you call a "no-show" I see as consistency and grace (but that's a subject matter for another day). Jesus and His Church (despite it's flaws) have been around for over 2,000 years despite persecution and attack. Let me know when the iPhone changes millions of lives, completely changes culture, law, even the way we do dates, and is still around 2,000 years from now. I don't think the iPhone or even Apple and Steve Jobs will ever be able to say that.

The good news here in Jesus is that God offers hope and forgiveness, which can unfortunately morph into threats and demands (though I don't think that is what seeker and Lawanda have been doing) if we are not careful. The iPhone offers an new tricked out, over priced gadget that will be irrelevant in a generation. Give me Jesus anyday...not that I wouldn't take an iPhone if someone gave it to me and offered to pay the crazy service agreement. ;)

These types of comparisons can be a fun diversion, but really, they get silly. I mean, why don't we start writing "illuminating" posts about:
- Jesus v. the Big Mac
- Jesus v. Barry Bonds
- Jesus v. Paris Hilton

The learning could be useless endless

It may be silly, but it isn't useless.

I think when you are severely obese and very fond of Big Macs, you NEED to think about this!

Or if you prefer staying home and watching a ballgame to going to worship Jesus, you need to think about it!

Or if you prefer trying to be like or prefer seeing girls who are like Paris Hilton, rather than girls who are nice and modest... you need to think about this!

You need to learn to compare your actions with Jesus' :)

And I don't think people would consider church boring if they did more of that, honestly....

:)

If the illustration will work, get non Christians to pay attention, illustrates a point to believers and is not over the line, I say go for it.

I think when you are severely obese and very fond of Big Macs, you NEED to think about this!

I am NOT severely obese! Oh wait, were you talking to me directly? ;) LOL.

Point taken. Our idols v. Jesus

Hi Aaron,
I was wondering if you'd like to post on the following:

serious sin

What is there to say? His past is his past, but people dig it up. He's gonna have to deal with it, unfortunately. If his life has been clean since then and he fixed it with his wife, what the HECK does that have to do with his public service?

I mean, even Ben Franklin had dalliances. Even the Lewinski thing was stoopid. I mean, it's not OK from a personal perspective, but he didn't break the law, and he isn't doing it now, so give him a break, that's my take. Just one more reason not to sin, though.
